Program Note
Dataflow was written for a composition reading session given by the acclaimed new music ensemble Alarm Will Sound, while the group was in residence at Bowling Green State University during the spring semester of 2012. A term utilized in computing, a dataflow is software architecture based on the idea that the modification of a given variable (X) triggers an automatic value recalculation of other variables, which are dependent upon the current value of X. During the course of this piece, musical content is continually re-evaluated and altered based upon the status, or presence, of specific elements within the overall sonic texture.
