lex•i•cal tone -
the distinctive pitch level carried by the syllable of a word, which is an essential feature of the meaning of that word.
The Lexical Tones Podcast, hosted by Robert McClure, offers a weekly conversation with a guest composer, performer, and/or artist creating new works of contemporary art/music. Each creative supplies three adjectives about their work or themselves, and Rob tries to discover additional connections through discussion and listening examples (several complete compositions). These conversations often focus on aesthetics, technique, process, meaning, perception, and the musical origins of the featured guest.
Under the Lexical Tones umbrella, ADJ•ective New Music also releases Dangling Modifiers—a lighter (often humorous) aspect or detail related to a particular guest (we feel it's important that we never take ourselves too seriously, as artists or human beings!)—and Over Drinks, wherein members from the ADJ•ective New Music Composers' Collective discuss works and/or composers in an informal way, like you would over coffee or at a bar.
(We know, discussing avant-garde or contemporary music at a bar?…NERDS!)
Please subscribe to the Lexical Tones Podcast on iTunes or find us on Soundcloud and Stitcher to get new episodes as soon as they are released. Feel free to rate us on iTunes and send us feedback. Thanks for listening!
...oh, this probably goes without saying, but...
The opinions expressed by these creative artists do not (necessarily) reflect the view held by ADJ•ective New Music, LLC or the members of the ADJ•ective New Music Composers' Collective.
We are just human beings; expressing/sharing our thoughts and (individual) creative ideas and perspectives!
