About ADJ•ective New Music

About Us

ADJ•ective is a publishing and distribution company. Four composers, including co-owners Jamie Leigh Sampson and Andrew Martin Smith, Brandy Hudelson, and Donald Bohlen publish their works through ADJ•ective. An additional 17 self-published composers distribute their works through ADJ•ective. Composers co-promote and work with performance partners to bring new works to the world every year.

    Launch of the ADJ•ective Performance Partnerships

    4(19) Festival in Toledo

    Launch of the ADJ•ective Composers' Collective
  • Summer 2015
    ADJ•ective wins two categories of the National Flute Association's Newly Published Music Award for Brandy Hudelson's Wild Nightingale and Loops.
  • August 2014
    Brandy Hudelson became the first non-owner published by ADJ•ective!
  • April 2014
    Publication of ADJ•ective's first book (Contemporary Techniques for the Bassoon: Multiphonics) by Jamie Leigh Sampson.
  • January 2014
    The official launch of the ADJ•ective Store!
  • Summer 2012
    ADJ•ective started its music lesson program for students of all ages.
  • November 2011
    ADJ•ective's first New Music Concert in Toledo, OH: Contemporaneous. The program included works by Andrew, DJ, and Jamie.
  • October 2010
    ADJ•ective New Music, LLC officially filed its Articles of Incorporation as an Ohio publishing company. 
  • 2006
    ADJ•ective was originally a new-music trio in Fredonia, NY comprised of Andrew Martin Smith (clarinet), DJ Brady (piano), and Jamie Leigh Sampson (bassoon). After graduating from SUNY Fredonia in 2007, DJ moved to Los Angeles to begin his film composing career in the University of Southern California's Film Composer Certificate Program, while Jamie and Andrew moved to Northwest Ohio to earn their graduate degrees from Bowling Green State University.

Our Mission

As an organization, ADJ•ective strives to introduce contemporary music to new audiences in the concert hall, studio, and classroom through group and private instruction, event presentation, and music production and distribution.
