Program Note
Blue Dog Bop (Grade 4), is a punchy work for concert band that uses recurring rhythm, syncopation, and mixed meter to create a groove. This groove serves to unify the work even when the colors change in percussion and the wind instruments are suspended in a kaleidoscope of changing chords, entrances, and dynamics. A note to conductors: At letter C, the chords and shifting dynamics are the focus, allow the colors to shift and the percussion to accompany. Composed simply because sometimes we need a bop.
