Nicholas J. Cannady · The Golden Goddesses

Program Note

The work is organized into four movements based off the Goddesses from The Legend of Zelda series. Din, Nayru, and Farore are the three goddesses of creation in the world of Hyrule. The goddesses are aligned with the three virtues of the omnipotent triforce, the heavenly relic that grants the wish of the person who touches it. Din is the Goddess of Power, which in the creation of Hyrule, she cultivated and shaped the chaos of Hyrule. Nayru is the Goddess of Wisdom, which she created all life forms that reside on the land. Farore is the Goddess of Courage, which she made the law that the life forms upheld. The fourth goddess is the Goddess Hylia, which is the Goddess who first battled the antagonistic force of the franchise, Demise. In her plan, the goddess Hylia sacrificed her divine form to a Hylian (the human equivalent race) so Demise will never be revived again. The human form of Hylia is Princess Zelda, in which the descendants of Princess Zelda will have the blood of the Goddess. Unfortunately, in his defeat to the Hero and the Goddess, Demise curses them with the cycle of war every few generations.
