Biographical Profile
Nicholas J. Cannady (ASCAP) is a composer based in Athens, Ohio, whose work has been featured at the Society of Electro-Acoustic in the United States (SEAMUS) Conference, the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) Region V Conference, the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, and the International Saxophone Symposium. A native of Valdosta, Georgia, Cannady is known for a diverse and innovative catalog that spans solo, chamber, wind ensemble, marching, and electroacoustic music. He studied music composition at the Ohio University School of Music, honing his craft under the mentorship of composer Dr. Robert McClure.
Dedicated to creating narrative-driven music that evokes strong emotional resonance, Cannady draws inspiration from his unique interdisciplinary background. He holds a Masters in Sociology and a Bachelors degree in Sociology and Anthropology from Valdosta State University, utilizing a wide range of social and cultural influences to enrich his compositions. His works have been performed by renowned groups such as the Unheard-of//Ensemble, the Valdosta State University Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band, the University of the Incarnate Word Cardinal Marching Band, East Burke High School Band, and numerous high school marching programs. In addition to his active composing and collaborative schedule, Cannady currently serves as a Student Success Advisor and Instructor for the Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts at Ohio University. Reflecting his dual commitment to musical and academic communities, he is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc. and the Alpha Kappa Delta National Sociology Honor Society. |
